Crude Imports and Exports by China to Rise: Citi

[Dow Jones] China's crude-oil imports and exports will likely increase after the lunar new year, mainly thanks to loosened regulations on the independent refiners, known as teapots, leading to higher operating rates, says Citi analyst Ivan Szpakowski. In January, China imported 26.7 million tons of crude, down 4.6% on-year and lower than the 33.2 million tons imported in December. "Crude oil imports were slightly weaker in January, likely distorted by a strong December number," the analysts say. He also notes that petroleum products net exports fell 68% on-month, partly due to the cold weather in January boosting domestic demand.
